THE AGENT – THE BRIDGE BETWEEN THE SEA AND THE LAND

In the maritime industry, the shipping agent is considered a silent but extremely important “bridge”, connecting ship owners, cargo owners, port authorities and functional agencies. In offshore oil fields – where all activities require absolute precision and close coordination – this role becomes even more special.
On this business trip, Mr. Ho Trong Hai, an experienced agent of Thang Long Maritime, was assigned to supervise and coordinate the export of crude oil of the PVT Mercury ship at the Black Lion field. It seemed like a routine job, but the harsh nature turned it into a big challenge.
PVT Mercury ship
The weather forecast had predicted big waves, but the reality offshore was even more fierce. The service ship carrying Mr. Hai was constantly swaying on the 3-4 meter high waves. Approaching and climbing onto the PVT Mercury via a wet rope ladder, swaying between the two sides of the ship, was like a real test of courage and skill.
Recalling that moment, Mr. Hai shared:
“The wind was whistling in my ears, the waves were crashing against the ship’s side, everything was shaking. I could only think of one thing: absolutely follow the safety procedures, not be negligent even for a second. The pressure was huge, not only from nature but also from the responsibility of ensuring the progress of the multi-million dollar shipment.” Not only the movement, the entire process of doing procedures, supervising pipe connections, checking safety… all took place under the condition of the ship swaying violently. Every step, every operation had to be many times more careful.
Mr. Ho Trong Hai – Shipping Agency Department
With the experience accumulated after many years of working at sea, Mr. Hai coordinated smoothly with the captain and crew of the PVT Mercury. All information about weather, wave conditions, cargo progress, etc. were continuously updated to the relevant parties on shore. The good coordination and mutual trust between the agent and the operating team became a solid support against the storms.
The moment the first crude oil flowed safely into the PVT Mercury tank was also the moment when everyone could breathe a sigh of relief. It was not only a technical signal, but also a testament to the professional spirit and ability to overcome difficulties of the people working in the middle of the ocean.
The shipment then left Su Tu Den mine on schedule, carrying a source of “black gold” contributing to ensuring national energy security. Behind that success are not only modern machines or advanced processes, but also the intelligence, perseverance and courage of the people who directly carry out the implementation.
The image of a resilient agent clinging to the ship in the rough sea is a beautiful symbol of the spirit of those working in the Vietnam Oil and Gas – Maritime industry: facing challenges, being dedicated to work, and always putting safety first.
