On October 29, 2025, Thang Long Maritime Joint Stock Company participated in an international webinar organized by RightShip in collaboration with Thetius, themed “From Pledges to Practice: Anchoring Safety, Sustainability, and Crew Welfare in Vessel Selection”. This is an annual event that brings together leading experts in the maritime field, aiming to promote the application of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards in ship operation and management.
The webinar featured reputable industry speakers, including Nick Chubb (Chief Strategy Officer & Founder of Thetius), Christopher Saunders (Director of Maritime Affairs, RightShip), Torben Hertel (Director of Maritime Assurance – V.Ships), Raymond Peter (Managing Director – BSM Singapore), and Prashanth Athipar (Head of Maritime Safety & Engineering – BHP).
The experts shared the latest research findings on integrating safety, sustainability, and seafarer welfare into ship assessment systems, aiming for a more transparent, responsible, and sustainable maritime industry.
The RightShip – Thetius report indicates that, while over 70% of shipowners and ship managers reported exceeding basic safety, environmental, and welfare standards, only about 27% of charterers actually prioritize or reward shipowners who achieve higher ESG standards. This disparity stems from a lack of common standards, reliable data, and effective incentive mechanisms.

At the webinar, the research team proposed four key recommendations for the maritime industry:
1. Reward leading ESG companies through financial incentives, long-term contracts, or reduced port fees.
2. Standardize and unify the concept of “Good ESG” to provide common evaluation criteria for all types of vessels.
3. Integrating ESG data into risk management and chartering processes, enabling information to be used directly at the decision-making point.
4. Enhancing transparency and recognition through the publication of ESG results and industry rankings.
Attending the webinar, representatives from Thang Long Maritime Joint Stock Company had the opportunity to access advanced management trends and modern ESG assessment tools introduced by RightShip. This knowledge helps the company improve the quality of vetting, enhance risk control, and reaffirm its commitment to sustainable development – ensuring safety, protecting the environment, and caring for the well-being of seafarers.
Proactive participation in international programs like RightShip’s webinar demonstrates Thang Long Maritime’s orientation towards integrating global standards, aiming to become a leading safe, green, and humane ship operator in Vietnam.
